Analysis of a School Magazine

As I mentioned before, I will be creating part of a school magazine for my preliminary task. To support my work I have been researching existing school magazines, and how they have used different codes and conventions.

^On this cover of 'The Griffin' the masthead stands out because of its bold colour in contrast to the light background. However it should fill the entire width of the magazine or just the top hand corner of either the left or right hand side as the title looks a bit oddly placed.

Their choice of buzzword was well selected, as the word 'FREE!' automatically draws the reader to the magazine. Although, they could have used different colours as the black doesn't stand out that well against the purple. The same goes for the strip, which they chose to put at the top of the magazine, it instantly catches the eye because of how bold it is however the black writing gets drowned out because of this.

The main feature article picture looks very professional, which helps make the magazine look more refined. The background colour was also well chosen as it means the picture stands out and doesn't disappear like the black lettering.

There are a few changes I would have made to this cover, however I think that it was still made to a very high standard and the students that created it did very well!
